Big Trip Preliminary Planning

It’s been a few years since I’ve mad a big trip abroad, and it’s high time I go back.  17 and I were planning a trip for this Spring but have postponed it until 2013.  Side note: We are going to do an East Coast trip this year in the fall.  I want 17 to see my Alma Mater and my old stomping grounds – and maybe a few landmarks.

The 2013 trip is going to be with some friends, some of 17 oldest friends.  They have welcomed me into their circle and I think we finalized the itinerary.  It has already taken a few changes from my original pitch:

  1. Madrid, Barcelona, Florence, Venice, Vienna, Budapest
  2. Madrid, Barcelona, Venice, Zurich, Munich, Frankfurt
  3. Frankfurt, Munich/Salzburg, Venice, Florence, Barcelona, Madrid

I really like this last order.  I’m going back to some places I really love and get to see some new places.  Two of the places I haven’t been that might be pretty neat (and slightly nerdy) is Salzberg – I want to see the Sound of Music tour, and possibly one of the concentration camps my Grandfather helped liberate during WWII.

This group is really detail oriented, so that takes some pressure off me.  The last group trip I took to Europe had 10 people, I did all of the planning and by the end of the trip I really wanted to strangle more than half of the group.  I hardly spent time with ThePrince and the TLB was 6 months pregnant.  I am glad to be making new memories for the one of my favorite cities and not having to plan this singlehandedly.

I’m sure this will change…I’ll keep you updated.  Any places we are missing that are must sees?  Any things we should see in the cities I listed??

  1. I love any European Itinerary! I hope we are able to plan a trip that might overlap one or two of your cities! Also, I’m glad that others are helping plan this time around… it makes it so much more fun.
